In 2008, he co-founded Outer Edge Technology with Jose Almonte (CTO) after seeing the same pattern repeat itself across industries. Smart teams, often operating in regulated environments, were being asked to move fast while carrying enormous risk. Downtime was not an option. Compliance could not be an afterthought. Yet the infrastructure supporting critical systems was frequently treated as a utility instead of a foundation.

Outer Edge was built to change that.

Today, Rick leads Outer Edge, a firm that designs, builds, and manages secure, compliant IT environments for organizations that cannot afford to get it wrong. Much of the firm’s work supports life sciences and other regulated sectors, where audit readiness, validation, and system integrity are non-negotiable.

The name “Outer Edge” comes from a personal moment that stayed with him. A close friend once described certain people in youth athletics as being on the “outer edge of the inner circle.” In other words, close enough to understand what was happening, trusted enough to be relied on, but far enough to offer perspective. That idea became a philosophy. Outer Edge is not a distant vendor, and not an internal department either. The team operates alongside clients, embedded enough to understand the stakes, yet independent enough to move quickly and speak honestly.

Rick does not believe IT leadership is about selling more technology. He believes it is about clarity, trust, and accountability, especially when the pressure is high. His approach is consultative by nature, rooted in experience, and shaped by years of working inside environments where small mistakes can carry serious consequences.

Today, Rick remains closely involved with clients, guiding strategy, governance, and infrastructure decisions that must stand up to real scrutiny. The focus has stayed consistent since the company’s founding: remove unnecessary complexity, build systems that can be defended under audit, and operate as a true extension of the client team.
